Overview

MedifastMD.com is a website for doctors to order products at a wholesale price and resell to their patients at a retail price. In 2014, the company decided to grow this business channel and enhance business partnership with medical providers. With this goal in mind, there's a need to create web-based solutions for doctors to serve their patient better.

The Challenge

Most doctors do not want to carry a lot of inventory in their practice for couple of reasons, limited space at the practice and the concern about product shelves life and limited cash flow.

The Insights

Based on the user research through personal interviews and an online survey of doctors below are the users pain-points:

• Doctors don't have space in their practice to inventory large quantity of products
• Can't resell the product in a timely fashion, products have short shelve life, ends up throwing away a lot of products
• Doctors have limited cash flow and don't want to spend too much money up front

The Solution

Create a personal website for doctors to share with their patients to order products online with doctor-patient relationship validation process upon login. Patients pay for products at a retail value and product get shipped to their home. Doctor get compensated at the partnership rate.

The Result

The personal website for medical providers was well-received by the healthcare community and many of our smaller accounts who preferred leveraging our drop-ship capabilities and providing patients with our full catalog of products over maintaining inventory and only being able to offer a limited selection due to space and cash flow constraints.

The company strategic direction has changed to solely focus on Direct Selling through distributors, we transition some of the doctors to participate in becoming a distributor, the site was taken down in 2016
